Introduction - AMFI-Amsterdam Fashion Institute
The AMFI-Amsterdam Fashion Institute offers you a full-time, 4 year Bachelor degree programme which forms an excellent basis for a successful career in the fashion industry and all related businesses. The AMFI provides the only course in the Netherlands that will teach you all facets of the fashion industry. Students choose to specialise in either Design, Branding or Management and graduate with a Bachelor Degree in Fashion Technology.
AMFI is situated in its own building on the Mauritskade in Amsterdam. The building was originally the headquarters of the Amstel Brewery and many of the original historic features remain in this listed building. However, being a fashion institute you can also find many modern features including the multimedia library, screen printing rooms, computer rooms, moulage rooms, fabric testing laboratory and sewing room with modern industrial equipment.

Fashion is a serious business. The façade of luxury and glamour conceals a branch of industry in which there is plenty of hard work going on and where enormous financial interests are at stake. This makes the fashion branch both invigorating and dynamic. Today virtually every economic activity is influenced by fashion and trends. For this reason, too, training at the AMFI will give you an enormous head start compared to others, because you will become familiar with all aspects of the branch at first hand. You will be at once a specialist and an all-rounder. Technology, design, media, sport, (pop) music, politics, visual arts, economics, purchasing, production, delivery, marketing, styling and architecture: all these subjects will be dealt with in your studies.
In order to make a career for yourself in the fashion industry you have to be a go-getter and will need special qualities, such as an inquisitive and enterprising attitude, flexibility, team spirit, self-knowledge and the ability to carry on when things do not go your way.
