Introduction
Welcome to the Trade Management Asia Department of Economics and Management / HES. The growth in the Asia Pacific region has been phenomenal for some years now and it still is compared to the rest of the world. The Western world would like to share in these growth numbers. That this is not straightforward has become clear from a few disappointing missions of large multinational companies. The business world needs people who understand the trading world of the far east. You will be part of this thriving international business context with a degree of Trade Management Asia at the HvA HES. The opportunities are endless for the years to come.
International companies increasingly need people who can handle and initiate international business with Asia. People who can work with the specific cultures of india, China or Japan. People who are able to speak and understand the main languages and who are willing and able to initiate growth. You will be given the theoretical tools and practical experience to confidently start a career in the arena of 'West meets East' or vice versa. You can grow into a management position within five years.
As a graduate of Trade Management Asia you might become part of a project team to establish part of the business in India ('offshoring') or you will take charge of finding business opportunities in the region of Wenzhou in China. You will implement your education by analysing the market and writing an export business plan that will contain a layout of the market, how to approach it, who should be targeted, which entry mode should be used, how to position the company and, very important, what it will cost both in money as in other resources. Alumni of Trade Management Asia also work in more specialised roles like procurement officer or they have started their own (trading)business. Anyhow, you will need the entrepreneurial skills and hands-on mentality that is required during your education at the HES.
All courses are in English which will give you the advantage to exceed your fellow graduates from other business schools when it comes to English proficiency. A half year exchange to a university in Asia and an internship of half a year are part of the programme.
