Introduction
One programme, two degrees, three qualifications!
The International Degree in English and Education combines English teacher training in the Netherlands with a UK university degree.
The IDEE programme is run jointly by the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (EHvA) and the University of Wolverhampton in England. The programme is now in its 18th successful year. Dutch and international students follow a Foundation Year at the HvA and are then joined by British students in their second year. Mixed groups of British, Dutch and international students study together for the three higher years, spending half of each year at the University of Wolverhampton and half in Amsterdam. Students who complete the IDEE programme gain a Dutch Grade 2 diploma for teaching English (Bachelor's level) and a B.A. Honours degree from the University of Wolverhampton. In addition students can use their portfolio from the IDEE course to apply for a Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching (ICELT). IDEE is a challenging programme for students with a desire to travel and a spirit of adventure.
This country's too small for me...
IDEE offers the chance to travel and experience a different culture from the 'inside'. As a Dutch or international student you'll find out what it's like to live among the British. You'll get to experience British music, humour and food first hand and find out the reality behind the stereotypes. And what better way to learn English than by using it all day every day with native speakers? Students from the UK will be able to experience life on the 'continent' and find out that Amsterdam is a cosmopolitan city offering a broad variety of cultural experiences ranging from Rembrandt at the Rijksmuseum to riding a bike along the canals.
Cultural mix
The international flavour of the IDEE course starts already in the Foundation year so you could find yourself sitting next to a student from Hungary or France. All communication both inside and outside the classroom naturally takes place in English and you will have the benefit of learning about different cultures right from the start.
We believe that this cultural mix benefits all those involved, giving a broader perspective on all sorts of issues. Each student makes their own unique contribution to the programme and everyone learns from the diversity within the group.
An intellectual challenge
The IDEE programme leads to a university Bachelors' degree. Right from the start you will be encouraged to adopt an academic approach to your studies: learning to think about issues and analyse them; carrying out independent research, using libraries and the Internet to find the information you need and learning how to express your ideas in coherent writing. The programme provides a stimulating learning environment which aims to develop your intellectual potential to its fullest.
