Qualifications
To be eligible to apply to the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI) your qualifications must be equivalent to those to which Dutch students have to comply. The Nuffic (Netherlands Organisation for International Co-operation in Higher Education) assesses the value of foreign diplomas and their acceptability. You should have completed secondary education at university entrance level with a good pass level for Mathematics.
For example:
- 2 A levels plus 3 GCSE Grades A - C (UK)
- BTEC National Diploma (eg Fashion & Clothing, Textiles or Business Administration (UK)
- International Baccalaureate Diploma (International schools, UK and US)
- Abitur or Fachhochschulreife (Germany and Austria)
- Baccalauréat (France)
Intake Procedure
All students who apply for one of our three courses must take part in a suitability test. This consists of an assignment that you send with the application form, a personal intake interview with a teacher and one of our higher year students. For Fashion & Design you receive an assignment at home and bring it with you to the intake. For Fashion & Branding you do an assignment at AMFI on the day of the intake itself. For Fashion & Management you need to complete a computer assignment at the intake where we assess various qualities.
Please make sure you apply as early as possible to allow time for all formalities to be completed including checks to your education level by Nuffic, language level and visa applications where applicable.
Application Deadlines
If you are applying from abroad and come to the AMFI Open Day on 5 November 2011 - we can offer you an early interview in February 2012 (providing that we receive a completed application form and all requested documents by 8 January 2012).
If you do not apply early then the deadline for students with a non-Dutch education is 1 April 2012. Please note that applications received after 1 April 2012 cannot be processed.
If you followed the Dutch education system then your deadline is the same as for students applying for the Dutch programme (1 May 2012).
If you do not meet all the requirements or if you are not sure whether your diploma will grant you access contact the institute to discuss your situation, telephone +31 (0)20 -595 4500 or +31 (0)20 - 595 45 80.
Application
If you would like to apply for one of the international courses, you need to complete an application form (without this we cannot invite you for an intake interview). Students who followed the Dutch education system (eg MBO 4, HAVO or VWO) should use the Dutch application form (see bottom of page). If you followed another international education system eg. IB Diploma, Arbitur, etc., then please use the forms for international students (see bottom of page).
You should not register on Studielink until you have been accepted at AMFI. We will advise you how to register in your acceptance letter.
With the application form you must enclose
- Official transcripts of education certificates, diplomas and degrees or other documentation to support your application and to confirm that the required education level is met (see "Qualifications" above)
- Any documents not in English, German or French must be translated by a recognised translator. Original translations should be supplied with copies of original "untranslated documents"
