The Programme

The AMFI-Amsterdam Fashion Institute offers three Bachelor-Degrees which prepare students for key positions in the truly international fashion and design industry: Fashion & Management, Fashion & Design and Fashion & Branding. There is also an international curriculum, AMFI International, in which teaching is offered in English. This promotes the international atmosphere in the training course, and forms a good preparation for the international environment in which you will be working later on.

During your training you will be introduced to various disciplines, such as design, marketing, production, purchase and business economics. At the end of your studies you will be a specialist in the field of fashion and clothing, and you will have a general knowledge in the fields of economic processes and trends. You will know what the clothing branch looks like and how design, management and communication are linked together within the branch.

Besides lectures and practical work, you will often be involved in complex practical situations. During the practical tasks you will learn to apply your knowledge and to see the relationship between the various disciplines. Working together towards a final result is an important aspect within the entire training course. Optional subjects, work placements, exchanges, international excursions, lectures by visiting lecturers and workshops ensure a highly varied course in which you are given the opportunity to prepare yourself as broadly as possible for your future work.

You will carry out a work placement, nationally or internationally, so that you can experience what is required to direct the developments within an organisation in the fashion and clothing industry. Moreover, we expect you to keep looking at yourself critically and to set yourself targets. Scrutinizing your own progress and dedication is therefore an important aspect of our course. This is achieved with the help of intensive study career guidance. In addition each student makes a personal digital portfolio. AMFI will train you for a job within the commercial fashion industry or related branches. These may be for example manufacturers of clothing labels, production companies, wholesalers, shop chains, magazines, design and styling studios or advertising agencies.

Coaching

Learning is not just the acquisition of knowledge, but it is also the critical monitoring of your personal development. You will therefore be encouraged to ask yourself what your strongest and weakest points are, and the points that require extra attention during your studies. In order to enable you to work on this in a systematic manner, you will be allocated a mentor who will coach you.
