Content of the ISMB programme
The content of the ISMB programme is briefly described below. The programme is based on five values, which will be integrated throughout the entire study. Each student will learn ten competences during the ISMB programme and each year of the study has a central theme (see below).
Values
The five values of International Sports, Management and Business are: Sustainability, Community, Integrity, Diversity and Excellence.
Competences
A quick overview of the competences an ISMB graduate will be equipped with:
- The ISMB graduate disseminates a passion for sports in every possible respect.
- The ISMB graduate is an inspiring leader.
- The ISMB graduate strives for high quality of the sports programmes.
- The ISMB graduate creates a positive atmosphere in sports and work.
- The ISMB graduate develops and implements international sports policy.
- The ISMB graduate responds to international developments on the sports market.
- The ISMB graduate initiates and implements change.
- The ISMB graduate develops and maintains an international network.
- The ISMB graduate manages finances.
- The ISMB graduate works and develops on the basis of a vision on international sports.
Broad outline of each study year
1st year: Orientation
Sports (management skills, cultural differences, etc learned through active sports experiences), operational experiences acquired through field trips to European sports locations.
2nd year: Planning and Implementation
Development of competencies with a focus on policy-based thinking and acting, writing plans based on basic research and advising. Internships in environments which introduce the student to at least two of the three specializations of ISMB (High Performance Sport, Sport Development and Entertainment Sport).
3rd year: Strategy
Choose specialization. Work out strategies regarding the professionalization of sports, more and more abstract analyses and complex tasks, work practice and experience in the sport world. Based on analysis and research which is related to what has been done in the years before, business plans are developed.
4th year: Graduation project
Graduation project in the chosen specialization.
Internship
The internships (10 weeks in year 2, 15 weeks in year 3, 20 weeks in year 4, all with an international focus) will be set in international companies, organizations or associations, preferably outside the Netherlands.
Tuition fees

The tuition fee ONLY includes classes and tuition. The tuition fee EXCLUDES books, travel, accommodation, sports equipment and/or sports clothes etc.
