Language and Preparatory course: Preparing you for a AUAS/HvA course
The Language and Preparatory course prepares candidate students with a mother tongue other than Dutch for a course at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS/HvA). The Language and Preparatory course is characterised by its integrated provision of Dutch as a Second Language, higher vocational study skills and preparatory subjects aimed at learning relevant terminology and theory (language-oriented vocational training).
The Language and Preparatory course consists of three periods. You can either attend the entire course or enrol during the course (if your level matches the level of the groups).
Conditions for enrolling
Candidates that wish to attend a course need to meet a number of requirements:
- A desire to enrol for a higher vocational course at the AUAS/HvA
- A foreign diploma of at least havo/mbo-4 level *.
- A valid residence permit for the length of the course.
- Sufficient Dutch language skills for the enrolling moment of your choice. Candidates will sit an intake exam.
If you do not have a diploma, an intake interview will be organised to determine whether you are eligible for sitting the 21+ entrance exam.
Registration + Intake
If you are interested, you should register. You will then receive an invitation for an intake interview. In this interview you will be given information about the Language and Preparatory course and your eligibility for the Language and Preparatory course will be assessed.

State Exam Dutch as a Second Language, programme II (NT2-II)
In order to sit the State Exam Dutch as a Second Language, programme II, you have to register via the Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (DUO): www.ib-groep.nl or via www.expertisecentrumnt2.nl
Please ensure that you register for the exam in time. It will take 6 to 8 weeks for the results of the test to be published.
The AUAS/HvA does not accept NT2 entrance exams of other higher vocational institutions.
