Introduction to the School of Social Work and Law

The School of Social Work and Law (SSWL) has six departments. Each study programme takes 4 years, with a wide variety of examining methods being used.

Within de department of Social Work extensive expertise is developed on the issues of:

  • methods and methodology for the Social Work targetgroups especially for people at risk
  • the planning and organization of international projects
  • the coordination and participation in international projects and comparative research

The Department of Social Work maintains contacts and contracts with 1100 social agencies in the region of Amsterdam. The amount of Social Work students is 2800. The department has a staff capacity of 133 FTE persons.

The School of Social Work and Law prepares students for bachelor's and master's degrees in social work. (BA and MA). Bachelor programmes at SSWL run four years (240 EC) and consist of a major (210 EC) and a minor (30 EC). Most programmes are delivered in both a full time and a part time variety.

The professional Master programme runs two years in part time. The professional master is in Dutch.

The School of Social Work and Law has a research and service center De Karthuizer.
