International  Study at HvA - Tuition Fees

Tuition Fees

Like all higher education institutes in The Netherlands the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, University of Applied Sciences has different tuition fees for students from countries of the European Economic Area (EEA) and non-EEA students.

For the academic year 2008/2009 the tuition fees are:

  • Statutory tuition fee (students from EEA countries): € 1.565
  • Institutional tuition fee (students from non-EEA countries): € 6.500

Exceptions

As regards the 2008/2009 academic year, the following students are eligible for the statutory tuition fee:

  • Nationals from one of the EEA countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Rumania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Sweden, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland).
  • Under certain preconditions, persons of Turkish nationality, on the basis of Association Decree 1/80 by the EEC/Turkey Association Committee (children of (former) employees who live in a member state where they are currently employed or have been employed).
  • Persons of Swiss or Surinam nationality.
  • Family members of EU residents living in the Netherlands that are not EEA nationals (on the basis of the 2004/38/EC Directive).
  • Aliens with legal residence based solely on a fixed-term residence permit (Section 28 of the Aliens Act), permanent residence permit (Section 33 of the Aliens Act), normal permanent residence permit (Section 20 of the Aliens Act), normal fixed-term residence permit with constraints (Section 14 of the Aliens Act).
  • Aliens awaiting a decision to grant or extend a residence permit who already receive financial aid or have received financial aid in the past (on the basis of the Fees and Educational Expenses Act).

Other international students will be required to pay the institutional tuition fee.

Transitional arrangement

Current non-EEA students, who started their studies at HvA in academic year 2007/2008 or earlier are eligible for a transitional arrangement.

Amsterdam Talent Scholarships

In order to attract talented foreign students, a performance-based scholarship system is introduced: the Amsterdam Talent Scholarships (ATS). The ATS are awarded at the end of every academic year to non-EEA students who have paid the institutional tuition fee.
