Preparatory courses for foreign students

Dutch as a Second Language, State exam NT2-II, naturalisation, preparing for Higher Professional Education. Candidate students with a mother tongue other than Dutch, who wish to enrol in a degree programme at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS/HvA), can attend a preparatory course at the education department of the General Office Student Affairs (Dienst Studentenzaken).

Language and Preparatory course: preparing you for a AUAS/HvA programme

The Language and Preparatory course prepares candidate students with a mother tongue other than Dutch for a degree programme at the AUAS/HvA. The Language and Preparatory course is characterised by an integrated approach in which learning Dutch as a Second Language is combined with study skills and preparatory subjects for Higher Professional Education. The course is aimed at learning relevant terminology and theory (language-oriented professional training). The Language and Preparatory course consists of three periods. You can either attend the entire course or enrol during the course (if your level matches the level of the groups).

Conditions for enrolling

Candidates who wish to attend a course need to meet a number of requirements. These are:

1.     A desire to enrol in a degree programme at the AUAS/HvA

2.     A foreign diploma of at least havo/mbo-4 level*.

3.     A valid residence permit for the duration of the course.

4.     Sufficient Dutch language skills to enrol at the time of your choosing. Candidates will take an entry exam.

*If you do not have a diploma, an interview will set be up, aimed at determining whether you are eligible for sitting the 21+ entrance exam.

If you are interested, then please register. You will receive an invitation for an interview. In this interview you will be given information on the Language and Preparatory course and your eligibility for the Language and Preparatory course will be assessed.
