Visa
If you are going to study in the Netherlands as a foreign student, you may need to apply for a visa ‘Machtiging tot Voorlopig Verblijf’ (MVV) before arrival. An MVV is merely an entry document. Once you have arrived in the Netherlands you will need a Residence Permit (VVR) in order to make your stay in the Netherlands legal. Your MVV application must be handled by the International Office of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, University of Applied Sciences; it is not possible for you to apply for it directly yourself.
MVV
Whether or not you need an MVV depends on:
1. Your nationality and
2. The duration of your stay.
1. Nationality:
If you do not have the nationality of one of the EU/EER countries or Switzerland, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea or Japan, you will need an MVV, depending on the duration of your stay.
2. Duration:
If you want to study at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, University of Applied Sciences, as a regular degree student or as an exchange student your stay will be longer than three months. This means you will need an MVV (if you do not have one of the nationalities mentioned above).
Visa & Residence Permit Guide
The countries are divided into different categories. Depending on the category you fall into, you will need to send in information beforehand. All is described in the Visa & Residence Permit Guide. Please read this guide carefully and be sure to comply with all requirements.
